Welcome to my blog!

Today I was training one of my favorite clients. She is just an awesome person and she listens to what I have to say because she trusts me. When she first came in to see me she was all covered up, her hair was slightly disheveled and her eyes and her head were both down to the floor. When I introduced myself and said, "Good Morning!" She looked up with a half crooked smile on her face, which wasn't really how she was feeling. But so as not to make an uncomfortable situation more difficult I "kept it moving" and asked her how she was feeling. Whoa! That was the wrong thing to do. Her eyes got a little bit full and her bottom lip began to quiver and I immediately did something that I don't normally do to my clients. I stepped forward and gave her a hug. By looking in her eyes and reading her face I really didn't need to wait around for what her lips could not articulate. I knew what it was, I've been there before with many clients.

They come in after weeks of working out, they step on the scale at home and they've hit that point where they are eating right and the weight just isn't coming off and they don't know what to do. The frustration is unbearable at times. Especially when you've been doing the right thing and you've had so much success in the beginning. It can really throw you off and a quick "hang in there" really doesn't fix it, nor will your friends telling you that you just need "more cardio."

The desire to be fit, toned and pressure to look like the people on television can be overwhelming. Now some people might look at this woman and think that she doesn't have it together, but she is very successful. But the thing about successful people is that they are "used to" success and when they find something that they are having a hard time with they get slightly frustrated. So I told her what I usually tell me clients when their backs are against the wall and also to get a little chuckle out of them. I tell them "Have No Fear, Coach Yari is Here!" And then we laugh.

So this is what I did and then I basically asked her a couple of questions and this is what we found out. The solution was so simple. She was supposed to eat a couple ounces of cashews and she was measuring the cashews as if they were fluid instead of putting them on the scale and weighing them!! After solving this problem, she lost another 3 pound over the course of the next 10 days. Sometimes the key is not more exercise, it's just listening, having the right information and sticking to the plan.

Take care. Until next time,

Coach Yari
